Alma Lee Loy honored in bridge dedication ceremony Saturday
Holding back tears, former Indian River County Commission Chairman Willard Siebert Jr. officially renamed the 17th Street Bridge in Vero Beach in honor of Alma Lee Loy on Saturday.The ceremony at the base of the bridge near the Vero Beach Municipal Power Plant drew more than 300 officials, friends and family of Loy, who was instrumental in getting state approval for the $9.4 million project. In 1979, Loy cut the ribbon for the opening of the bridge that spans the Indian River Lagoon from Indian River Boulevard to State Road A1A. Continue reading
