Manatees at Round Island Park Vero Beach Florida
August 30, 2009 — This is a breeding group of manatees we observed from our kayaks while out on a guided tour of Round Island in Vero Beach. If you go to see the manatee please do not swim with them or get to close they are very large wild animals that could capsize your kayak- they are protected and FW gave out $500 fine to people who are swimming with them and touching them. Please Respect them and observe them from a safe distance.

The shallow waters of the Indian River Lagoon are full of life - dolphin, manatee, and more than 700 species of fish. There are nesting birds here and sea turtles too. From the beach at Capt Hiram's there are several islands to explore that are easy to get to - great for picnicing and if you want to you can camp out there.
